1770 Camping Grounds

Welcome to 1770 Camping Grounds

Named after Captain Cook's first landfall in Queensland on the 24th of May 1770, the town celebrates his arrival with an annual festival held on the weekend nearest the date. The unspoiled landscape, little changed in 220 years, is popular with tourists who come to marvel at the beautiful vistas and tranquil waters.

The area is renowned for rock and estuary fishing and is the closest point to Lady Musgrave Island. Day trips run to the island and charter boats take visitors to the excellent fishing and diving at the outer reef islands. Caravan and camping facilities are available.
